Venice Design Week 2026 will be held from October 9 to 18 in Venice, Italy, transforming the city’s historic palaces, galleries, hotels, and cultural spaces into a circuit dedicated to contemporary design. Centered on the theme «100» and the sub-theme «The Light of Rising Tides,» the 15th edition invites reflection on responsibility, sustainability, and the lifecycle of objects.
A highlight among the offerings is the VDW Light Selection at the Radisson Collection Hotel Palazzo Nani, where design explores the relationship between light and matter. International firms such as Vistosi are participating, while the Mexican studio Piedra Santa will present translucent stone pieces that interact with the lighting. A meet-the-designers event is scheduled for October 9.
VDW Interior Design, hosted at Combo Venezia, will bring together furniture and home accessories, showcasing sustainable design concepts and innovative materials. Meanwhile, Palazzo Pisani Revedin will host Esprimere, an exhibition curated by Maria Gao and He Huang that introduces a new generation of emerging designers from China.
The program also features the VDW Jewelry Selection—dedicated to contemporary and designer jewelry—which will occupy the Chiesa dell’Abbazia della Misericordia. Complementing this is Geographies of Tableware at the Ca’ Pesaro Museum of Oriental Art; this exhibition analyzes tableware design from both European and Asian perspectives and will remain open until November 8. In addition to the exhibitions, the Arte y Diseño Venecia Cultural Association will organize daily guided tours in English and Italian through the city’s workshops, narrow streets (calli), and small squares (campielli). The parallel program includes lectures such as “100% Intentional: What Renaissance Households Teach Us About Design,” held at Combo Venezia.
With a schedule of events spread across various locations in the lagoon, Venice Design Week 2026 aims to connect design, history, and sustainability. The event also aligns with Venice’s vibrant autumn cultural season—coinciding with the Art Biennale and preceding Venice Fashion Week—thereby cementing October as a key period for Italy’s creative industries.

Design Week South Africa 2026 will take place from October 8 to 25 under the theme «The Shape of Us,» with official sponsorship from Pinterest. The event offers a look at the culture, heritage, identity, and perspectives of the Global South through architecture, urban planning, and social design.

Rather than centering on a single venue, the festival will transform Johannesburg and Cape Town into open stages for design, featuring activities in studios, galleries, hotels, and public spaces. The first stage will take place in Johannesburg from October 8 to 11, spanning four creative districts: Braamfontein & CBD, Rosebank, The Parks, and Kramerville. Participants include firms and creators such as Pedersen + Lennard, Acre Studio, Wanda Lephoto, and the Kim Sacks School of Ceramics.
The second stage moves to Cape Town from October 22 to 25, curated by creative director PR$DNT HONEY. The program will focus on outdoor furniture, independent fashion, and architectural projects exploring the relationship between people and the coastal environment. These activities will coincide with Pan Afrikan Design Week 2026, taking place from October 21 to 23 at the V&A Waterfront.
Social impact will be a key theme. A highlight among the activities is the conference «Why Is Sandton So Hard to Walk?»—organized by Young Urbanists—which will analyze pedestrian mobility issues and the need to build more walkable, inclusive cities. An open-access reference library—conceived by Beloved May at The Salon and featuring literary and visual materials dedicated to African design—will also be made available. Community workshops will include clay-molding sessions at the Kim Sacks School of Ceramics, alongside activities focused on textile customization and the sustainable repurposing of materials.
The evening program will feature Groove Biennale, an initiative combining architecture, sound, and design within Johannesburg’s alternative scene, thereby extending the festival to new gathering spaces.
Most activities in the creative districts will be free, though some talks, workshops, and tours will require advance registration due to the limited capacity of participating studios and venues. Through this decentralized structure, Design Week South Africa 2026 positions design as a tool for reflecting on identity, community, and the social transformations taking place across the African continent.
