La Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) anunció a través de un comunicado que en 2025 se logró la restitución de 2 mil 158 objetos culturales de valor arqueológico y documental entregados de manera voluntaria por particulares a autoridades diplomáticas y consulares de Países Bajos, Italia, Francia, Dinamarca, Canadá y Estados Unidos.

La misiva detalla que la Consultoría jurídica entregó al Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia mil 843 objetos. Se recordó que de forma global las embajadas y consulados de México han recuperado más de 16 mil piezas culturales desde el mandato del ex presidente Andrés Manuel López Obrador, cuando comenzó el plan de restitución de subastas en ciudades como nueva York, Roma y París, en las que aparecían objetos robados.

The Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores (SRE) announced in a statement that in 2025, 2,158 cultural objects of archaeological and documentary value were repatriated. These objects had been voluntarily surrendered by private individuals to diplomatic and consular authorities in the Netherlands, Italy, France, Denmark, Canada, and the United States.

The statement details that the Legal Counsel’s Office delivered 1,843 objects to the National Institute of Anthropology and History. It was noted that, globally, Mexican embassies and consulates have recovered more than 16,000 cultural artifacts since the administration of former President Andrés Manuel López Obrador began, when the restitution plan for stolen objects was initiated after they appeared at auctions in cities such as New York, Rome, and Paris.
