El legendario documentalista estadounidense Frederick Wiseman falleció a los 96 años el pasado lunes 16 de febrero de 2026 en su casa de Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Considerado uno de los padres del documental moderno, Wiseman destacó por un estilo único:  Cine sin artificios: Sus películas no utilizaban narración, entrevistas ni música añadida, permitiendo que la realidad de las instituciones hablara por sí misma.

Desde su debut con la controversial Titicut Follies (1967) —prohibida durante años, otra de sus obras destacadas fue Menus-Plaisirs – Les Troisgros (2023). Wiseman recibió un Oscar honorífico en 2016 y el León de Oro por su trayectoria en el Festival de Venecia en 2014.  Su familia y su distribuidora, Zipporah Films, confirmaron que murió pacíficamente, aunque no se reveló una causa de muerte específica

Wiseman received an honorary Oscar in 2016 and the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival in 2014. His family and his distributor, Zipporah Films, confirmed that he died peacefully, although a specific cause of death was not revealed.

 Diseñada por Atsuko Nishida (la creadora original de Pikachu), esta carta fue un premio para los ganadores de un concurso de ilustración de la revista japonesa CoroCoro Comic en 1998. Solo existen 39 copias en el mundo, y la de Paul es la única con grado 10 de conservación. On February 16, 2026, the legendary Pikachu Illustrator card (graded a perfect PSA 10) sold at a Goldin Auctions auction for an astounding $16,492,000 USD. The card was originally purchased in 2021 by influencer and WWE wrestler Logan Paul for $5.27 million.

The card was acquired by A.J. Scaramucci, son of Anthony Scaramucci (former White House communications director). It officially became the most expensive collectible card ever sold at auction, surpassing previous records held by sports cards such as Mickey Mantle and Michael Jordan.

Designed by Atsuko Nishida (the original creator of Pikachu), this card was a prize for the winners of an illustration contest held by the Japanese magazine CoroCoro Comic in 1998. Only 39 copies exist in the world, and Paul’s is the only one in Grade 10 condition. The lot also included the gold and diamond case that Logan Paul wore as a necklace during his entrance at WrestleMania 38.

El legendario compositor estadounidense Billy Steinberg falleció el lunes 16 de febrero de 2026 a los 75 años en su casa de Brentwood, Los Ángeles. Su abogada, Laurie Soriano, confirmó que la causa de su muerte fue una larga batalla contra el cáncer.

Steinberg fue un arquitecto fundamental del pop de los años 80 y 90, dejando un legado que incluye:  «Like a Virgin» (Madonna): Coescrita con su socio Tom Kelly, fue el primer número 1 de la «Reina del Pop» en EE. UU. y se inspiró en una experiencia personal de Steinberg tras una ruptura difícil.

«True Colors» (Cyndi Lauper): Un himno de autenticidad que Lauper recordó con cariño tras su partida, destacando su calidad como letrista. La presidenta Claudia Sheinbaum anunció recientemente un Plan Integral de Apoyo al Cine Nacional. El punto central es un nuevo incentivo fiscal de hasta el 30% del Impuesto sobre la Renta (ISR) para proyectos cinematográficos realizados en territorio mexicano.

El beneficio es un Crédito fiscal de hasta el 30% contra el ISR para producciones de cine y series. Se estableció un límite de 40 millones de pesos por proyecto. Aplica para largometrajes de ficción, documentales, animación, series, efectos visuales y postproducción. Podrán acceder tanto empresas mexicanas como producciones extranjeras, con la condición de contratar talento y personal mexicano.

El propósito de la iniciativa es consolidar a México como un polo de producción audiovisual en América Latina y fomentar encadenamientos productivos locales. El anuncio contó con la presencia de figuras destacadas como la actriz Salma Hayek y la secretaria de Cultura. Esta medida busca modernizar el marco legal actual y complementar estímulos existentes como el EFICINE.

Claudia Sheinbaum recently announced a Comprehensive Plan to Support Mexican Cinema. The centerpiece is a new tax incentive of up to 30% of Income Tax (ISR) for film projects produced in Mexico.

The benefit is a tax credit of up to 30% against ISR for film and television productions. A limit of 40 million pesos per project was established. It applies to feature films, documentaries, animation, series, visual effects, and post-production. Both Mexican companies and foreign productions can access it, provided they hire Mexican talent and personnel.

The purpose of the initiative is to consolidate Mexico as a hub for audiovisual production in Latin America and foster local production chains. The announcement was attended by prominent figures such as actress Salma Hayek and the Secretary of Culture. This measure seeks to modernize the current legal framework and complement existing incentives such as EFICINE.
