El Museo Regional Michoacano (MRM) Dr. Nicolás León Calderón, fundado en 1886, celebró su 140 aniversario con actividades artísticas y culturales gratuitas.

El acto conmemorativo, del recinto cultural considerado el más antiguo del Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INA) se realizó el 30 de enero con la presencia de Marco Antonio Rodríguez, director del Centro INAH Michoacán, Tamara Sosa, secretaria estatal de Cultura, Tamara Sosa; y Jaime Reyes director del recinto.

Durante casi siglo y medio, el MRM cuenta con una colección paleontológica, arqueológica, histórica y artística compuesta por 6 mil piezas, de las cuales 2 mil se encuentran exhibidas en sus 12 salas.

Entre los servicios que el museo brinda al público destaca el archivo histórico, que documenta la memoria de la entidad, desde el siglo XVI hasta el siglo XX; así como una biblioteca especializada en historia, antropología y arqueología.

El recinto exhibe actualmente la muestra LiberArte, compuesta por 25 pinturas que abordan la naturaleza y la obra abstracta-figurativa, autoría del artista Víctor Hugo Barriga Guzmán, que permanecerá hasta finales de febrero.

Como parte de los festejos se inauguraron los murales Cuahuitl-Xoxochitl (Árbol de muchas flores) y Metztli Xictli (Ombligo de la luna), del creador Juan Alberto Soto Miranda, que podrán visitarse hasta marzo. The Michoacán Regional Museum (MRM) Dr. Nicolás León Calderón, founded in 1886, celebrated its 140th anniversary with free artistic and cultural activities.

The commemorative event for the cultural institution, considered the oldest of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), took place on January 30th with the participation of Marco Antonio Rodríguez, director of the INAH Center in Michoacán; Tamara Sosa, state secretary of Culture; and Jaime Reyes, director of the museum.

For nearly a century and a half, the MRM has housed a paleontological, archaeological, historical, and artistic collection comprised of 6,000 pieces, 2,000 of which are on display in its 12 galleries.

Among the services the museum offers to the public are its historical archive, which documents the history of the state from the 16th to the 20th centuries, and a library specializing in history, anthropology, and archaeology.

The museum is currently exhibiting LiberArte, a collection of 25 paintings by artist Víctor Hugo Barriga Guzmán that explores nature and abstract-figurative themes. The exhibition will run until the end of February.

As part of the celebrations, the murals Cuahuitl-Xoxochitl (Tree of Many Flowers) and Metztli Xictli (Navel of the Moon), by Juan Alberto Soto Miranda, were inaugurated and will be on display until March. La muestra Futbol: Diseñando una pasión, curada por Dr. Kevin Moorela integran indumentaria, objetos de señalética, publicaciones y gráfica que hace referencia a los nueve torneos de los mundiales celebrados en América, mientras que la muestra Ali Kazma, el artista turco exploran el proceso creativo de la escritura a través de textos Alberto Manguel y Orhan Pamuk.

Lechuga, reúne reúne 57 piezas que funcionan como un bestiario: técnicas, materiales y estilos que viajan por distintas regiones del país; Diseña México se integra de propuestas nacionales de diseño industrial, gráfico, digital, de producto y moda. “Alemania en la Colección Franz Mayer”, una selección de cerca de 300 piezas alemanas reunidas por Franz Mayer en la primera mitad del siglo XX como: objetos de platería, libros y documentos. “Dürer: El primer artista viral”: una lectura actual del artista renacentista a través de herramientas tecnológicas.

“IA: Más allá de lo humano”, una exposición del Barbican Centre con instalaciones inmersivas y estaciones interactivas que operan a través de IA.

“World Press Photo 70° aniversario”, que reúne imágenes ganadoras representativas de siete décadas. “Biodiseño Mx. Territorios vivos”, presentada como la primera exposición de biodiseño en México dentro de la línea Franz Sustentable, con proyectos de artistas emergentes inspirada en la independencia de los seres vivos.

El museo será sede a lo largo de 2026 de eventos comoa MDF Mexico Design Fair 2026, la Bienal Internacional del Cartel 2026, y una exposición internacional de Grayson Perry: “La vanidad de las pequeñas diferencias”

The exhibition dedicated to Dürer brings together a collection of prints. Other exhibitions at the museum include «Animals and Fantastic Beings: Mexican Folk Ceramics from the Ruth D. “AI: Beyond Human” is an exhibition at the Barbican Centre featuring immersive installations and interactive stations powered by AI.

“World Press Photo 70th Anniversary” brings together award-winning images representing seven decades. “Biodesign Mx. Living Territories” is presented as the first biodesign exhibition in Mexico within the Franz Sustentable line, featuring projects by emerging artists inspired by the independence of living beings.

Throughout 2026, the museum will host events such as the MDF Mexico Design Fair 2026, the International Poster Biennial 2026, and an international exhibition by Grayson Perry: “The Vanity of Small Differences.”
