The 2026 Calaveras Cultural Festival will take place in Aguascalientes from October 30 to November 8, with a program focused on reclaiming the traditional spirit of the Day of the Dead and honoring José Guadalupe Posada—an artist from Aguascalientes and the creator of the iconic «Catrina.»
This year’s edition will concentrate its activities within the Historic Center and the area surrounding the traditional fairgrounds, excluding more distant locations. The program includes over 400 free activities, encompassing cultural expressions, gastronomy, music, and performances.
A highlight of the event will be the traditional Calaveras Parade, scheduled for the evening of Friday, October 30, as it makes its way through the streets of the Historic Center. The parade floats will be inspired by the traditional altar de muertos (Day of the Dead altar). A monumental altar dedicated to the memory of actor and producer Ernesto Alonso will also be set up, alongside displays of ofrendas (offerings) in various historic venues and at the Casa de la Cultura (House of Culture).
The J. Pani pedestrian walkway will be transformed to evoke the atmosphere of a 19th-century Mexican town, while the Foro del Lago (Lake Forum) and the Carranza Corridor will host urban art installations, theater, concerts by the Aguascalientes Symphony Orchestra, and performances by folk music and dance groups.
Gastronomy will also have its own dedicated space, featuring pavilions showcasing artisanal pan de muerto (Day of the Dead bread), sugar skulls, and a variety of regional snacks and traditional treats. Although the festival will prioritize local cultural expressions, the Palenque de Aguascalientes will host a subsequent musical lineup, featuring performances by Julión Álvarez on November 13, Edén Muñoz on the 14th, and Alfredo Olivas on the 15th. Tickets are available for purchase through SoluTicket.
Authorities also announced plans for a large-scale concert in the pedestrian areas of the city center, with further details to be revealed soon.
