FICG. Take It As You Like, is the biographical book that the University of Guadalajara (UdeG) has produced about Luisa Huertas.

Its author, Roberto Fiesco, noted that he took the title from the film of the same name by Rogelio Quiroga, which marked the beginning of the Mexican-Salvadoran actress’s film career.

Tómalo como quieras, es el título del libro que elaboró la Editorial de la Universidad de Guadalajara como parte del homenaje que realiza en la edición 41 del Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara (FICG).
Durante la presentación del volumen que fue una de las actividades más importantes de la jornada del 18 de abril, su autor, Roberto Fiesco, compartió que el título lo tomó de la película homónima dirigida por Rogelio Quiroga realizada en 1971 y que marcó el inicio de la trayectoria cinematográfica de la actriz México-salvadoreña.
Ante una sala 3 del Conjunto Santander de Artes Escénicas que lució nutrida, la actriz compartió anécdotas y opiniones relacionadas con su vida dentro y fuera de los escenarios de teatro y locaciones cinematográficas. Entre muchas frases relacionadas con la forma en cómo concibe la vida de un actor, subrayó: “el día que un actor comience a pensar que ya no necesita aprender nada más, ese día comienza a cavar su propia tumba”.
Durante la charla habló de la forma en cómo vivió el movimiento estudiantil de 1968, de su militancia en el partido comunista durante años posteriores, de su trabajo como actriz con emblemáticos directores de teatro y cine como Margules y Ripstein y de la fortuna que tuvo de ser compañera de vida durante 25 años del actor y director Miguel Córcega.
Entre las anécdotas mencionadas dijo sentirse muy satisfecha de haber construido una trayectoria a partir de la realización de obras de teatro y películas en las que ha querido estar porque tocan temas que la conmueven y hablan temas que a ella le han parecido importantes también. Dijo que ese ha sido uno de los criterios que para ella son importantes, incluso más que la oferta de un papel protagónico. Aseguró: “Decidí hacer No nos moverán porque al ver el guion sentí que quería hablar de eso”.
Durante la charla entre Fiesco y Huertas, el público pudo observar imágenes de la portada e interior del libro en una gran pantalla de fondo.

«Take It As You Like» is the title of the book produced by the University of Guadalajara Press as part of the tribute being paid at the 41st Guadalajara International Film Festival (FICG).

During the book’s presentation, which was one of the most important events of the day on April 18, its author, Roberto Fiesco, shared that he took the title from the film of the same name directed by Rogelio Quiroga, made in 1971, which marked the beginning of the Mexican-Salvadoran actress’s film career. Before a packed audience in Hall 3 of the Santander Performing Arts Center, the actress shared anecdotes and opinions about her life on and off the stage. Among many statements regarding her perspective on an actor’s life, she emphasized: «The day an actor starts thinking they no longer need to learn anything, that’s the day they begin digging their own grave.»
During the talk, she spoke about her experience of the 1968 student movement, her membership in the Communist Party in subsequent years, her work as an actress with iconic theater and film directors like Margules and Ripstein, and the good fortune she felt in being the life partner of actor and director Miguel Córcega for 25 years.
Among the anecdotes she mentioned, she expressed great satisfaction in having built a career through theater productions and films she has chosen to be involved in because they address themes that move her and that she considers important. She said that this has been one of the criteria that is important to her, even more so than the offer of a leading role. She affirmed: “I decided to do No nos moverán because when I saw the script I felt I wanted to talk about that.”

During the conversation between Fiesco and Huertas, the audience could see images of the book’s cover and interior on a large screen in the background.

La edición 41 del Festival Internacional de Cine de Guadalajara inició oficialmente la tarde del 17 de abril con la inauguración y su respectiva alfombra roja en el Auditorio Telmex.
Durante el acto, se entregó el Mayahuel de Plata a la actriz mexicana Luisa Huertas, el Mayahuel Iberoamericano al chileno Pablo Larraín y se reconocieron las trayectorias de la directora chilena Maité Alberdi y el actor venezolano Edgar Ramírez.
“Lo mejor que me ha pasado en la vida ha sido ser madre… y haber decidido desde niña ser actriz… Actuar es mi forma de vida y lo he hecho con plena conciencia y responsabilidad. Actuar en cine conlleva una doble responsabilidad porque es perdurable, porque plasma la vida y eso lo entiendo en cada toma. Al recibir este Mayahuel de Plata, por trayectoria que otorga el primer y emblemático Festival Internacional de Cine en Guadalajara, me siento plena, de gratitud, alegría, y me hace pensar que ha valido la pena la vida, vivirla y trabajarla, porque actuar es mi forma de vida. El cine recoge el devenir de la humanidad… retrata el alma de los seres humanos… y estamos fijando memoria, la de la actualidad y para el futuro; en eso radica su grandeza. Viva el cine”, estas fueron algunas palabras de Luisa Huertas al recibir el Mayahuel de Plata.
Pablo Larraín Post Mortem (2010), No (2012), El Club (2015), Neruda (2016), Jackie (2016), Spencer (2021), El Conde (2023) dedicó su Mayahuel Iberoamericano a las personas que aman el cine y dijo: “Comparto esto con mi hermano… sería imposible imaginarme sin su talento” …

Por su parte Maité Alberdi La memoria infinita (2023) – Largometraje documental (Nominada al Óscar), Soy la tierra (2022), El agente topo (2020) – Largometraje documental (Nominada al Óscar), compartió cuando recibio su presea correspondiente al homenaje internacional: “Los documentales nos regalan experiencias y perspectivas. Tenemos que observar, acompañar y traer a la luz esas historias pequeñas que sin darnos cuenta nos hablan a todos”, añadió.

“México ha sido históricamente una tierra de refugio para quienes han tenido que huir del dolor y del miedo, gracias por abrazar a tantos. Nadie es ilegal, nadie quiere irse de su hogar a la fuerza. Nadie deja atrás su casa, su idioma, afectos, sus muertos… México ha sabido construir una puerta de par en par, cuando otros han levantado muros”, djjo Edgar Ramírez, Aún es de noche en Caracas (2026), Borderlands (2024), Hands of Stone (2016), luego de recibir la presea correspondiente a su homenaje internacional.
Daniel Laguna Gutiérrez, Secretario Ejecutivo del Fondo de Fomento al Audiovisual de la Secretaría de las Culturas y las Artes de Chile, dijo sentirse satisfecho de que su país sea invitado de honor en este festival ya que con ello se reafirma la hermandad cinematográfica que desde hace muchos años existe entre los dos países.

Como parte de la ceremonia se proyectaron mensajes grabados de manera previa tanto de Karla Planter, rectora de la Universidad de Guadalajara, Guillermo Gómez Mata presidente del FICG, Estrella Araiza Directora del FICG, lo mismo que Verónica Delgadillo y Juan José Frangie, alcaldes de Guadalajara y Zapopan, además de Michelle Friedman secretaria de Turismo del Estado de Jalisco.
Previa a la proyección de la película Moscas de Eimbecke el director, dijo que guarda una relación especial con este festival porque hace 22 años estrenó en este festival su película Temporada de patos, y que ahora se encontraba muy emocionado de que estrenar aquí Moscas.

The 41st edition of the Guadalajara International Film Festival officially began on the afternoon of April 17 with the opening ceremony and its corresponding red carpet at the Telmex Auditorium.

During the event, the Silver Mayahuel Award was presented to Mexican actress Luisa Huertas, the Ibero-American Mayahuel Award to Chilean director Pablo Larraín, and the careers of Chilean director Maité Alberdi and Venezuelan actor Edgar Ramírez were recognized. “The best thing that has ever happened to me is becoming a mother… and deciding to be an actress since I was a child… Acting is my way of life, and I have done it with full awareness and responsibility. Acting in film carries a double responsibility because it is enduring, because it captures life, and I understand that in every shot. Receiving this Silver Mayahuel Award for lifetime achievement, bestowed by the first and emblematic Guadalajara International Film Festival, fills me with joy and gratitude, and makes me think that life has been worthwhile, living it and working for it, because acting is my way of life. Cinema captures the evolution of humanity… it portrays the soul of human beings… and we are recording memories, both of the present and for the future; therein lies its greatness. Long live cinema!” These were some of Luisa Huertas’ words upon receiving the Silver Mayahuel Award.

Pablo Larraín, director of Post Mortem (2010), No (2012), The Club (2015), Neruda (2016), Jackie (2016), Spencer (2021), and The Count (2023), dedicated his Ibero-American Mayahuel Award to people who love cinema and said, “I share this with my brother… it would be impossible to imagine myself without his talent.”

Meanwhile, Maité Alberdi, director of Infinite Memory (2023) – Documentary Feature (Oscar Nominee), I Am the Earth (2022), and The Mole Agent (2020) – Documentary Feature (Oscar Nominee), shared upon receiving her award at the international tribute: “Documentaries give us experiences and perspectives. We have to observe, accompany, and bring to light those small stories that, without us realizing it, speak to us all,” she added.

“Mexico has historically been a land of refuge for those who have had to flee from pain and fear. Thank you for embracing so many. No one is illegal, no one wants to be forced to leave their home. No one leaves behind their house, their language, loved ones, their dead… Mexico has known how to open its doors wide, when others have built walls,” said djjo Edgar Ramírez, director of It’s Still Night in Caracas (2026), Borderlands (2024), and Hands of Stone (2016), after receiving the award corresponding to his international tribute.

Daniel Laguna Gutiérrez, Executive Secretary of the Audiovisual Development Fund of the Ministry of Culture and the Arts of Chile, said he was pleased that his country was the guest of honor at this festival, as it reaffirms the cinematic brotherhood that has existed between the two countries for many years.

As part of the ceremony, pre-recorded messages were shown from Karla Planter, Rector of the University of Guadalajara; Guillermo Gómez Mata, President of the FICG; Estrella Araiza, Director of the FICG; Verónica Delgadillo and Juan José Frangie, Mayors of Guadalajara and Zapopan, respectively; and Michelle Friedman, Secretary of Tourism for the State of Jalisco.
Before the screening of Eimbecke’s film Flies, the director said he has a special connection with this festival because 22 years ago he premiered his film Duck Season here, and that he was very excited to premiere Flies here.
