Las proyecciones, mesas redondas, conversatorios y otros actos paralelos en el CCU de la UNAM se realizan del 25 al 28 de septiembre, y después el ciclo se replicará de manera presencial y en línea en 14 sedes más de la Ciudad de México hasta el 19 de Octubre

The screenings, roundtables, discussions, and other parallel events will take place at the UNAM CCU from September 25th to 28th, and the series will then be replicated in person and online at 14 additional venues in Mexico City until October 19th

La edición X de la Muestra Nacional de Imágenes Científicas inicia hoy con la proyección de Antropoceno la sexta extinción de Alberto Cortés, una coproducción TV UNAM y Claro Video hoy a las 18:30 horas en el Centro Cultural Universitario de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (CCU de la UNAM), según anunció Roxana Eisenmann.

El resto de las proyecciones, homenajes y conversatorios se realizarán en dicha sede hasta el 28 de septiembre. Después la muestra se replicará con proyecciones presenciales y en línea en 14 sedes más de la Ciudad de México hasta el 19 de octubre. Estos lugares son: Cine Club el Gato Azul; en el Centro Cultural Xavier Villaurrutia; en el Centro Cultural Bella Época, en Cine Lido del FCE; en el Cine Club de la Facultad de Arquitectura de la UNAM; en el CAM 100 de la Dirección de Educación Especial SEP en CONFE; en el Centro Cultural España en México; en el Museo Yancuic; en el Cine Club Xicalco; en el Museo Tezozómoc de Ciencia y Tecnología del IPN; en el Centro Cultural José Martí; en Barco Utopía; y en el Cinema del Centro de Estudios Superiores Rosario Castellanos, Justo Sierra.

Este año la MUNIC rinde un homenae a la destacada divulgadora científica, especializada en medios escritos y audiovisuales Martha Duhne Backhauss el jueves 25 de septiembre a las 12 horas en la Sala Julio Bracho del CCU – UNAM.

Entre las novedades de este año, Chile es el invitado de honor y presentará los títulos: ¡Hola Flinko! – Viajemos con Filnko al Río Amazonas y ¡Hola Flinko! – Viajemos con Filnko a las costas colombianas.

También se exhibirán por primera ocasión trabajos de la nueva categoría: Cápsulas y cortometrajes producios por niñas, niños y jóvenes. Por otro lado en la categoría Mujeres en la Ciencia, se otorgará el reconocimiento especial Marco Julio Linares Quintero  a Luisa Cantú Ríos realizadora de Ciencia con A: Refugio Rodríguez Vázquez.

Además de proyecciones se tendrá la Mesa Redonda “La inteligencia artificial en proyectos audiovisuales” el viernes 26 de septiembre a las 17:00 horas en la Escuela Nacional de Artes Cinematográficas, ENAC (Mario de La Cueva s/n, C.U., Coyoacán, 04510, CDMX). Se realizarán también los ANECDOTARIOS que serán publicados en la página web y en las redes sociales de MUNIC en septiembre y octubre. Y como cada año, MUNIC estará presente en Cine en tu ciudad de ProCine CdMx, esta vez con los documentales Última llamada: seis especies contra la extinción, Carey y el Hijo de Rey Neptuno y Ndatu Savi – La suerte del agua.

MUNIC 2025 se realiza gracias al apoyo del Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía, IMCINE; al Fideicomiso para la Promoción y Desarrollo del Cine Mexicano en la Ciudad de México, PROCINE; a Filmoteca UNAM; al Instituto Sudcaliforniano de Cultura; al Centro de Investigaciones Biológicas del Noreste S.C., CIBNOR; a TV UNAM; y a la Asociación Española de Cine e Imagen Científicos, ASECIC.

The 10th edition of the National Exhibition of Scientific Images begins today with the screening of Antropoceno la sexta extinción by Alberto Cortés, a TV UNAM and Claro Video co-production, today at 6:30 p.m. at the University Cultural Center of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (CCU of UNAM), as announced by Roxana Eisenmann.

The remaining screenings, tributes, and discussions will take place at the same venue until September 28. The exhibition will then be replicated with in-person and online screenings at 14 additional venues in Mexico City until October 19. These locations are: Cine Club el Gato Azul; at the Xavier Villaurrutia Cultural Center; at the Bella Época Cultural Center; at the Cine Lido del FCE (FCE); at the UNAM School of Architecture Film Club; at the CAM 100 of the SEP Special Education Directorate at CONFE (National Electoral Council of Mexico); at the Spain Cultural Center in Mexico; at the Yancuic Museum; at the Cine Club Xicalco; at the Tezozómoc Museum of Science and Technology of the IPN (National Institute of Technology); at the José Martí Cultural Center; at Barco Utopía; and at the Cinema of the Rosario Castellanos Center for Higher Education, Justo Sierra.

This year, the MUNIC pays tribute to the distinguished science communicator, specialized in print and audiovisual media, Martha Duhne Backhauss, on Thursday, September 25 at 12 noon in the Julio Bracho Room of the CCU – UNAM.

Among this year’s new entries, Chile is the guest of honor and will present the titles: ¡Hola Flinko! – Viajemos con Filnko al Río Amazonas y ¡Hola Flinko! – Viajemos con Filnko a las costas colombianas.

Also, works from the new category: Capsules and Short Films Produced by Children and Young People will be screened for the first time. In the Women in Science category, the Marco Julio Linares Quintero Special Award will be given to Luisa Cantú Ríos, director of Ciencia con A: Refugio Rodríguez Vázque.

In addition to screenings, the Roundtable «Artificial Intelligence in Audiovisual Projects» will be held on Friday, September 26th at 5:00 PM at the National School of Cinematographic Arts (ENAC) (Mario de La Cueva s/n, CU, Coyoacán, 04510, Mexico City). The ANECDOTES will also be published on MUNIC’s website and social media in September and October. And as every year, MUNIC will be present at ProCine CdMx’s Cine en tu ciudad (Cine in Your City), this time with the documentaries Última llamada: seis especias contra la existencia (Last Call: Six Species Against Extinction), Carey y el Hijo de Rey Neptuno (Carey and the Son of King Neptune), and Ndatu Savi – La suerte del agua (Ndatu Savi – The Luck of Water).

El fallecimiento de doña Tina Hills en Miami a los 103 años de edad, me hace recordar la historia del periódico “EL MUNDO” de San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Su nombre y su legado siempre serán parte de esta historia, de su vínculo con la Fundación Ángel Ramos, y de lo que hasta hoy en día conocemos por TELEMUNDO.

Primero que nada, su vínculo directo con el periódico “EL MUNDO” (1919-1986) comienza al enviudar y heredar las empresas de su marido a partir de 1960.

Ángel Ramos, 1902-1960, quien a su vez había heredado el periódico “EL MUNDO” de su fundador, el periodista español Romualdo Real (1880-1959), luego de sus humildes orígenes y sus comienzos en este medio en 1920 como corrector y compaginador en los talleres del periódico, y más tarde administrador, eventualmente pasa a ser director y propietario del diario a partir de 1944, que, además de la Verdad y la Justicia, en la misma tesitura de su fundador, perseguiría la defensa de los derechos civiles.

El periodista canario Romualdo Real, afincado en San Juan de Puerto Rico justo desde 1902, también habría sido el creador y editor de la revista “PUERTO RICO ILUSTRADO”.

Ángel Ramos tuvo una gran visión y fue el responsable del desarrollo y establecimiento de la estación de radio WKAQ en 1949 y del canal 2 de televisión en 1954. La fusión de estos tres medios en sus nuevos predios de la avenida Roosevelt pasarían a ser lo que hasta hoy en día conocemos como TELEMUNDO. Un nombre lo suficientemente impactante en la historia de los medios de comunicación en Puerto Rico que se extiende a los EEUU, donde uno de los principales medios de mejor cobertura en español para las comunidades hispanas a nivel nacional e internacional reconoce el origen de su nombre y la semilla de su institución.

Tina Hills también será recordada como la figura clave y la mayor responsable del éxito a largo plazo de la Fundación Ángel Ramos, una de las instituciones filantrópicas más importantes de Puerto Rico. Además de haber sido la primera presidenta de esta fundación, doña Tina fue la primera mujer en presidir la Asociación Interamericana de Prensa (1977-1978). De origen italiano, había contraído matrimonio con Ángel Ramos en 1950.

Mi recuerdo sobre el periódico “EL MUNDO” tiene un matiz personal. Fue justo donde se conocieron mis padres a partir de 1960. Ambos, recién  graduados, comienzan a trabajar para esta empresa, curiosamente el mismo año del fallecimiento de su propietario Ángel Ramos y el comienzo de la nueva dirección a cargo de su viuda Tina Hills.

Entre los muchos recuerdos de infancia que conservo y atesoro, además de recorrer los pasillos de aquel nuevo y moderno edificio con las paredes forradas en mármol de Carranza, durante los veranos a partir de 1968, también valoro la admiración que sentían mis padres por doña Tina Hills.

Recuerdo en particular una de aquellas huelgas organizadas por los empleados que pertenecían a la unión, a finales de la década de los años 60, tal vez la más larga y tóxica de todas que tanto perjudicaron a los empleados como al periódico. Recuerdo que mi padre y otros compañeros suyos tuvieron que recurrir a entrar a los predios del edificio por helicóptero para poder realizar su trabajo y continuar con sus obligaciones en contra de la voluntad de aquellos compañeros que unidos abogaban por sus derechos laborales.

Luego de aquella huelga que duró unos seis meses, Tina Hills tuvo un detalle muy particular. Se trataba de un reconocimiento a aquellos empleados que habían cumplido con sus responsabilidades a cabalidad, contra viento y marea, y durmiendo en el mismo periódico, pese a las amenazas de sus compañeros huelguistas, mantuvieron el periódico en pie durante aquella etapa tan difícil.

Doña Tina misma, en persona, les hizo entrega de un obsequió muy especial, un broche / alfiler de oro italiano de gran valor. Mi madre, Ana Barada, siempre luciría el suyo en ocasiones especiales con mucho orgullo, no solo por la belleza del mismo, una pieza única creada por un diseñador italiano, si no por lo que representaba para ella aquel reconocimiento por parte de Tina Hills.

La trascendencia de su imagen de una mujer emprendedora que se encargó de conservar y prolongar el legado y el nombre de su marido Ángel Ramos, hoy forma parte de la historia de los medios de comunicación, de la filantropía y las artes, en Puerto Rico y más allá.

Algo de lo que yo mismo fui testigo cuando también trabajé para su fundación como parte de mis labores de relacionista público en Lopito, Ileana y Howie durante la elaboración de uno de sus informes corporativos anuales. Uno de mis proyectos favoritos que realicé con tanto orgullo y satisfacción, no solo por el honor de haberlo hecho, pero por la oportunidad de volver, ya como profesional, al edificio de TELEMUNDO después de tantos años. Un recuerdo entrañable del vinculo de mis padres al periódico “EL MUNDO”.

No podría terminar esta historia sin hacer una mención especial de algunos nombres estrechamente relacionados para siempre con el periódico “EL MUNDO” y que todavía conservo en mi memoria con toda mi admiración y cariño…

Primero a don Rafael Pont Flores, querido y admirado vecino también. Y mis dos queridas amigas periodistas que permanecieron muy cerca de nosotros para siempre: Estela Ruaño y Alba Raquel Cabrera, a quienes considero parte de mi familia y de quienes recibí una gran influencia profesional y humanística. A ellas les debo mucho de todo lo que soy y he logrado porque fueron mis grandes profesoras, inteligentísimas y con unos principios morales y espirituales muy altos, difíciles de encontrar hoy en día. A ellas y a mis padres les dedico este texto.

The passing of Mrs. Tina Hills in Miami at the age of 103 reminds me of the history of the newspaper «EL MUNDO» in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Her name and legacy will always be part of this history, of her connection to the Ángel Ramos Foundation, and of what we know today as TELEMUNDO.

First and foremost, her direct connection with the newspaper «EL MUNDO» (1919-1986) began when she was widowed and inherited her husband’s business in 1960.

Ángel Ramos, 1902-1960, who in turn had inherited the newspaper «EL MUNDO» from its founder, the Spanish journalist Romualdo Real (1880-1959), after humble origins and his beginnings in the medium in 1920 as a proofreader and paginator in the newspaper’s workshops, and later as its administrator, eventually became the director and owner of the newspaper from 1944 onwards. In addition to promoting Truth and Justice, and in the same spirit as its founder, he also pursued the defense of civil rights.

The Canarian journalist Romualdo Real, who had settled in San Juan, Puerto Rico, since 1902, was also the creator and editor of the magazine «PUERTO RICO ILUSTRADO.»

Ángel Ramos had great vision and was responsible for the development and establishment of radio station WKAQ in 1949 and television channel 2 in 1954. The merger of these three media outlets on their new premises on Roosevelt Avenue would become what we know today as TELEMUNDO. A name impactful enough in the history of media in Puerto Rico that it extends to the United States, where one of the leading Spanish-language media outlets with the best coverage for Hispanic communities nationally and internationally recognizes the origin of its name and the seed of its institution.

Tina Hills will also be remembered as the key figure and the person most responsible for the long-term success of the Ángel Ramos Foundation, one of Puerto Rico’s most important philanthropic institutions. In addition to being the foundation’s first president, Tina was the first woman to chair the Inter-American Press Association (1977-1978). Of Italian origin, she married Ángel Ramos in 1950.

My memories of the newspaper «EL MUNDO» have a personal tone. It was precisely where my parents met in 1960. Both, recent graduates, began working for the company, curiously the same year its owner, Ángel Ramos, died and the new management under his widow, Tina Hills, began.

Among the many childhood memories I cherish and treasure, besides walking the halls of that new, modern building with its walls lined with Carranza marble during the summers starting in 1968, I also value the admiration my parents felt for Mrs. Tina Hills.

I particularly remember one of those strikes organized by unionized employees in the late 1960s, perhaps the longest and most toxic of all, which harmed both the employees and the newspaper. I remember that my father and other colleagues had to resort to entering the building by helicopter to be able to do their jobs and continue their duties, against the will of those colleagues who united to advocate for their labor rights.

After that strike, which lasted about six months, Tina Hills had a very special gesture. It was a recognition of those employees who had fulfilled their responsibilities fully, against all odds, and sleeping at the same newspaper, despite threats from their striking colleagues, kept the newspaper alive during that difficult time.

Doña Tina herself, in person, presented them with a very special gift: a valuable Italian gold brooch/pin. My mother, Ana Barada, would always wear hers on special occasions with great pride, not only because of its beauty, a unique piece created by an Italian designer, but also because of what this recognition from Tina Hills meant to her.

The significance of her image as an entrepreneurial woman who took it upon herself to preserve and prolong the legacy and name of her husband, Ángel Ramos, is today part of the history of media, philanthropy, and the arts, in Puerto Rico and beyond.

Something I witnessed myself when I also worked for her foundation as part of my public relations duties for Lopito, Ileana, and Howie during the preparation of one of their annual corporate reports. One of my favorite projects, one I carried out with such pride and satisfaction, not only for the honor of having done so, but for the opportunity to return, as a professional, to the TELEMUNDO building after so many years. A fond memory of my parents’ connection to the newspaper «EL MUNDO.»

I couldn’t end this story without making special mention of a few names forever closely associated with the newspaper «EL MUNDO» and whom I still hold in my memory with all my admiration and affection…

First, to Mr. Rafael Pont Flores, also a beloved and admired neighbor. And my two dear journalist friends who remained very close to us forever: Estela Ruaño and Alba Raquel Cabrera, whom I consider part of my family and from whom I received a great professional and humanistic influence. I owe much of what I am and have achieved to them because they were my great teachers, extremely intelligent, and with very high moral and spiritual principles, difficult to find today. I dedicate this text to them and to my parents.
