La escritora argentina Samanta Schweblin ganó la primera edición del Premio Aena de Narrativa Hispanoamericana, dotado con un millón de euros, con lo cual supera la dotación económica del Premio Nobel de Literatura.
Schweblin obtuvo el reconocimiento por su libro de cuentos titulado El buen mal (publicado por Seix Barral/Anagrama).
Presidido por la escritora Rosa Montero, el jurado destacó sus «mundos perturbadores de prosa hipnótica» y su capacidad para llevar la tradición del cuento a su punto más alto.
La autora se impuso a otros cuatro escritores de renombre, quienes recibieron cada uno 30,000 euros: Héctor Abad Faciolince (Ahora y en la hora), Nona Fernández (Marciano), Marcos Giralt Torrente (Los ilusionistas) y Enrique Vila-Matas (Canon de cámara oscura).

El muralista mexicano Melchor Peredo García falleció este 8 de abril a los 99 años de edad en la ciudad de Xalapa Veracruz. Fue considerado por diversos sectores culturales como el «último gran muralista» de la corriente tradicional mexicana. Sus familiares confirmaron el deceso.

Peredo realizó al menos 25 murales a lo largo de su trayectoria, la mayoría de ellos en Veracruz.

Mexican muralist Melchor Peredo García passed away on April 8 at the age of 99 in the city of Xalapa, Veracruz. He was considered by various cultural sectors as the «last great muralist» of the traditional Mexican style. His family confirmed his death.
