La edición 23 del Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia contó con una pléyade de invitados distinguidos.
El Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM) inauguró su 23ª edición con la película El agente secreto, de Kleber Mendonça Filho.
Durante la Ceremonia de Inauguración del 23º FICM, Kleber Mendonça Filho director de esta cinta que ganó el Premio al mejor Director y Mejor Actor (Wagner Moura) en el pasado Festival de Cine de Cannes, fue reconocido a través de la develación de su butaca, la cual será colocada en la sala 5 de Cinépolis Morelia Centro.
La ceremonia contó con la presencia del director brasileño; así como de Alejandro Ramírez, presidente del FICM; Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, vicepresidente; Daniela Michel, fundadora y Directora General del festival; Daniela Alatorre, directora del Instituto Mexicano de Cinematografía (IMCINE); y Alfredo Ramírez Bedolla, gobernador de Michoacán.
UNA LARGA LISTA DE INVITADOS DESTACADOS
Previo a la proyección de IN-I: In Motion, dirigida por Juliette Binoche, la Invitada de Honor del 23er Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM), recibió el Premio a la Excelencia Artística como reconocimiento a su trayectoria y a las valiosas aportaciones que ha hecho a la industria cinematográfica.
En el evento estuvieron presentes Daniela Michel, fundadora y directora general del FICM; Alejandro Ramírez, Presidente del festival, y Cuauhtémoc Cárdenas Batel, Vicepresidente
Otras de las figuras destacadas invitades fue la actriz Jodie Foster quien realizó diversas actividades entre las cuáles destacó la charla en la que habló de la película Vie Privée (2025) de Rebecca Zlotowski y en la que interpreta a una psiquiatra que investiga un posible sicido de una de sus pacientes, quien dijo haberse enamorado del FICM. Otras de las actividades en las que apareció fue con su pareja Alexandre Hedison quien presentó su cortometraje Alok.
Stellan Skarsgård presentó Sentimental Value (2025), del aclamado director danés-noruego Joachim Trier habló sobre este filme que se presentó recientemente en el Festival de Cine de Cannes en donde ganó el Gran Premio del Jurado. Skarsgård ha sido reconocido en los Globos de Oro y en el Festival de Cine de Berlín.
Cherien Dabis, directora, productora, guionista y actriz palestina-estadunidense, Lo que queda de ti (2024) que recién estrenó en el Festival de Cine de Sundance, inspirada en el devenir de una familia palestina. La cinta cuenta con la producción ejecutiva de Mark Ruffalo y Javier Bardem, es la propuesta de Jordania para competir en la categoría de Mejor Película Internacional en los próximos Premios Oscar.
En este marco del FICM , Tinta, Sociedad de Escritores Audiovisuales y Cinematográficos de México A.C., rindió un homenaje a Sabina Berman. Su director Carlos Cuarón habló con la escritora, dramaturga y guionista mexicana quien escribió el guión de la nueva película de Alejandro González Iñárritu que se estrena en 2026.
Previo a la proyección de Frankenstein, los organizadores proyectaron un mensaje de Guillermo del Toro quien lamentó no haber podido asistir y en el que compartió: “Dónde estamos y quiénes somos cambia conforme la vida nos esculpe a golpes y Dios dicta la forma. Cuando era niño y muy Catolico pensé contar la historia de Dios Padre y Dios hijo unidos por la investigación del dolor y la muerte —en ese último momento de duda en la cruz—, pero todo a través de Frankenstein. Pensé en hablar de lo extraño que es ser hijo de un hombre difícil de descifrar, pero con el tiempo, aún mientras me comportaba como hijo, me volví padre yo también. Y a pesar de evitarlo por décadas, descubrí a mi padre en el espejo cuando cumplí los 42. Tuve que parar el ciclo del dolor antes de pasarlo a mis hijas, y decidí que las dos más poderosas herramientas eran el perdón y la aceptación. Todo esto está en Frankenstein”, escribió el director.
También se realizó una conferencia prensa con el cineasta, actor e invitado especial del festival, Gael García Bernal con motivo de la proyección del 25 aniversario de estreno de Amores Perros y la presentación de otras cintas que ha producido y del estreno de la cinta Magallanes, del cineasta filipino Lav Diaz, en la que interpreta al destacado navegante que realizó la histórica expedición con la Flota de las Especias.
En la lista de invitados especiales estuvo Olivia Harrison quien presentó la película Beatles ’64 del director David Tedeschi y producida por Martin Scorsese quien envió un mensaje grabado en donde hablaba del filme.
Parte del elenco de El callejón de los milagros de Jorge Fons, al igual que Amat Escalante celebraron los 30 años de dicha cinta y los 20 años de Sangre, respectivamente.
Por otro lado, Daniel Giménez Cacho estrenó su ópera prima como director titulada Juana, de la misma forma en que Arturo y Roy Ambriz presentaron Soy Frankelda, y Lucrecia Martel habló de su más reciente película Nuestra tierra (2024). Otros invitados fueron Charli Kaufman, Trisha Ziff, Eddie Muller, Robin Campillo.

A LONG LIST OF PROMINENT GUESTS

Within the framework of FICM, Tinta, the Society of Audiovisual and Film Writers of Mexico A.C., paid tribute to Sabina Berman. Its director, Carlos Cuarón, spoke with the Mexican writer, playwright, and screenwriter, who wrote the script for Alejandro González Iñárritu’s new film, which will be released in 2026.
Prior to the screening of Frankenstein, the organizers screened a message from Guillermo del Toro, who lamented his inability to attend. He shared: «Where we are and who we are changes as life sculpts us with blows and God dictates the form. When I was a child and very Catholic, I thought about telling the story of God the Father and God the Son, united by the investigation of pain and death—in that final moment of doubt on the cross—but all through Frankenstein. I thought about talking about how strange it is to be the son of a man who is difficult to decipher, but over time, even while behaving like a son, I became a father too. And despite avoiding it for decades, I discovered my father in the mirror when I turned 42. I had to stop the cycle of pain before passing it on to my daughters, and I decided that the two oldest «Forgiveness and acceptance were powerful tools. All of this is in Frankenstein,» the director wrote.
A press conference was also held with filmmaker, actor, and special guest of the festival, Gael García Bernal, to mark the 25th anniversary screening of Amores Perros and the presentation of other films he has produced. Bernal also celebrated the premiere of Magellan, by Filipino filmmaker Lav Diaz, in which he plays the distinguished navigator who made the historic expedition with the Spice Fleet.
The special guest list included Olivia Harrison, who presented the film Beatles ’64 by director David Tedeschi and produced by Martin Scorsese. Harrison sent a recorded message discussing the film.
