El escritor libanés recibió ayer el Premio FIL de Literatura en Lenguas Romances durante la ceremonia con la cual quedó oficialmente inaugurada la edición 39 de la FIL Guadalajara

“La humanidad se encuentra en una época desconcertante, aterradora y fascinante” esas fueron algunas palabras de Amin Maalouf quien recibió ayer el Premio FIL de Literatura en Lenguas Romances.

El escritor libanés volvió a reiterar, que la humanidad vive en dicha contradicción debido a personas que no ven el diálogo como una forma de resolver problemas y recurren a las guerras y la deshumanización que acompaña a la desorbitante carrera de los avances tecnológicos. “Jamás (yo) habría imaginado que la guerra regresaría con tanta fuerza al centro de la actualidad, no sólo en mi región de origen, el Levante, sino también en mi patria adoptiva, Europa; que la violencia se volvería aún más salvaje, más mortífera que en los tiempos de mi nacimiento, hace ya tres cuartos de siglo”.

Carmen Alemany Bay, representante del jurado del Premio leyó de nuevo la carta emitida desde agosto en la cual se plasmó dicha decisión conjunta y que menciona que Maalouf se hizo merecedor a esta distinción por poseer una obra que refleja con gran lucidez, las fracturas y losmestizajes del mundo moderno”, mientras que la presentación que Jorge Volpi hizo del homenajeado, se refirió a sus textos como un conjunto “lúcidas y necesarias reflexiones”.

Más tarde en un encuentro que sostuvo con la prensa, Maalouf lamentó que el conflicto en la Franja de Gaza parezca no tener un desenlace a corto o mediano plazo.

Compartió que debido al oficio de su padre que era periodista fue que nació su amor por la lectura y la escritura, respecto al hábito de la escritura se refirió como “una vocación de familia”.
Subrayó que la literatura es una herramienta a través de la cuál podemos entender el mundo y su devenir, lo cual provee a quien lee y escribe de preveer los peligros que pueden estar detrás de una situación o una circunstancia.

EL GOBIERNO FEDERAL OTORGÓ A LA FIL GUADALAJARA EL CERTIFICADO HECHO EN MÉXICO

Karla Planter rectora de la Universidad de Guadalajara recordó que la FIL Guadalajara es un escenario plural en el que se debaten todo tipo de ideas… es una zona de puertas abiertas a la pluralidad. Aquí tienen cabida todas las perspectivas. Es un espacio de importancia internacional para el intercambio de las ideas. Cuidémosla, y no permitamos que la intolerancia y la cerrazón amenacen a la palabra y supriman la posibilidad del diálogo en libertad.
Durante el acto Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Secretario de Economía de México, Planter Pérez recibió el certificado “Hecho en México” otorgado a la FIL; este es el primero que el gobierno federal entrega a un espacio cultural por excelencia… la FIL es un encuentro cultural para honrar la libertad editorial, y es una evocación del diálogo y la discusión pública.
Jaume Collboni, Alcalde de Barcelona, dijo que su ciudad cumple hoy un sueño de ser invitada de honor de la FIL para demostrar que es una urbe que ama los libros, que ama la literatura y que es una ciudad literaria, plena de librerías, bibliotecas, imprentas y editoriales.
Pablo Lemús Navarro gobernador de Jalisco, exhortó a los presentes a pensar en Raúl Patilla López, fallecido en 2023 como creador y promotor de esta feria y homenajear su legado.

“Humanity is living through a disconcerting, terrifying, and fascinating time,” were some of the words of Amin Maalouf, who received the FIL Award for Literature in Romance Languages yesterday.

The Lebanese writer reiterated that humanity lives in this contradiction because of people who do not see dialogue as a way to solve problems and resort to wars and the dehumanization that accompanies the exorbitant pace of technological advancements. “I never would have imagined that war would return with such force to the forefront of current events, not only in my native region, the Levant, but also in my adopted homeland, Europe; that the violence would become even more savage, more deadly than in the time of my birth, three-quarters of a century ago.”

Carmen Alemany Bay, representing the Prize jury, read aloud the letter issued in August outlining the joint decision, which stated that Maalouf deserved this distinction for possessing a body of work that lucidly reflects the fractures and hybridities of the modern world. Jorge Volpi, in his presentation of the honoree, referred to his texts as a collection of «lucid and necessary reflections.»

Later, in a meeting with the press, Maalouf lamented that the conflict in the Gaza Strip seems to have no end in sight.

He shared that his love for reading and writing stemmed from his father’s profession as a journalist, referring to his writing habit as «a family vocation.» He emphasized that literature is a tool through which we can understand the world and its evolution, enabling readers and writers to anticipate the dangers that may lie behind a situation or circumstance.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AWARDED THE GUADALAJARA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR (FIL) THE «MADE IN MEXICO» CERTIFICATE

Karla Planter, Rector of the University of Guadalajara, noted that the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) is a pluralistic forum where all kinds of ideas are debated… it is a space with open doors to pluralism. All perspectives are welcome here. It is an internationally important space for the exchange of ideas. Let us take care of it, and let us not allow intolerance and closed-mindedness to threaten the word and suppress the possibility of free dialogue.

During the ceremony, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, received the «Made in Mexico» certificate awarded to the FIL; this is the first such certificate that the federal government has awarded to a cultural space par excellence… the FIL is a cultural gathering to honor editorial freedom, and it is an evocation of dialogue and public discussion.

Jaume Collboni, Mayor of Barcelona, said that his city is fulfilling a dream today of being The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) was the guest of honor, demonstrating that it is a city that loves books, loves literature, and is a literary city, full of bookstores, libraries, printing presses, and publishing houses.
Pablo Lemús Navarro, Governor of Jalisco, urged those present to remember Raúl Patilla López, who passed away in 2023, as the creator and promoter of this fair, and to honor his legacy.

Sofía Comas se encuentra en México por segundo año en donde prepara algunos de los primeros temas que formarán parte de su nueva producción que pretende lanzar en 2026.

Ranchera protectora es el título del sencillo que la cantautora española comenzó a trabajar en octubre de este año… “se trata de un tema que lo grabé con Leiden, la idea es presentar este nuevo material en Guadalajara y la Ciudad de México en un formato más acústico, distinto a la versión en estudio”, dijo la cantante y añadió: “Para mí es un álbum muy especial porque lo he trabajado con un equipo de músicos mexicanos y españoles. La canción que produjimos aunque la compuse al piano y la coproduje con Rafa Durán quisimos hacerla ranchera, hice mis propias adaptaciones y la grabé a duo con Leiden. Me he propuesto hacer un álbum con los ojos en el otro, en la tierra, que sea el producto de trabajar con otros músicos de forma muy orgánica. Al proyectar este tema como una canción ranchera era vital trabajar la canción en México, con artistas que han respirado aquí desde que nacieron”.

Comas compartió sentirse satisfecha de las actividades que ha estado realizando en Veracruz, Puebla, Jalisco y la Ciudad de México, “siempre pensé que los temas nuevos que me he propuesto crear echaran raíces primero en México y luego en España y a la par preparar un show más escénico que vaya más allá de un simple concierto, ir más allá de lo musical”.

La cantautora recordó que este es su segundo año en el que ha mantenido relación con artistas mexicanos, ya que en 2024 presentó en este país su espectáculo “No cesarán mis cantos”, y en donde mezclaba algunos de sus temas con fragmentos de poesías de Netzahualcóyotl, Maria Sabina y Federico García Lorca. “No cesarán mis cantos”, se desprende del poemario que editó y en el que participa el ilustrador Javier Olivares. También ha explorado espectáculos en donde ha mezclado la poesía barroca de autores como Santa Teresa y Sor Juana, con temas de artistas como José José o Paquita la del Barrio.

Durante su estancia en tierras mexicanas, desde octubre de 2025 para grabar el tema Ranchera protectora , Comas ha dado además, diversos talleres de composición a jóvenes en Tapalpa y Guadalajara en colaboración con la directora de teatro y promotora Dolores Tapia, lo mismo que ha formado parte de actividades multidisciplinarias con relación al festejo de Día de Muertos.

Sofía Comas is in Mexico for the second year, where she is preparing some of the first tracks that will be part of her new album, which she plans to release in 2026.

Ranchera protectora is the title of the single that the Spanish singer-songwriter began working on in October of this year… “It’s a song I recorded with Leiden. The idea is to present this new material in Guadalajara and Mexico City in a more acoustic format than the studio version,” said the singer, adding: “For me, it’s a very special album because I’ve worked on it with a team of Mexican and Spanish musicians. The song we produced, although I composed it on the piano and I co-produced it with Rafa Durán; we wanted to make it a ranchera song. I made my own adaptations and recorded it as a duet with Leiden. I’ve set out to make an album with my eyes on the other, on the land, an album that is the product of working with other musicians in a very organic way. Since I envisioned this song as a ranchera, it was vital to work on it in Mexico, with artists who have breathed here since they were born.”

Comas shared that she feels satisfied with the activities she has been carrying out in Veracruz, Puebla, Jalisco, and Mexico City, “I always thought that the new songs I’ve set out to create would take root first in Mexico and then in Spain, and at the same time, prepare a more theatrical show that goes beyond a simple concert, goes beyond the musical.”

The singer-songwriter recalled that this is her second year collaborating with Mexican artists, having presented her show “No cesarán mis cantos” (My Songs Will Not Cease) in the country in 2024. In this show, she blended some of her own songs with fragments of poetry by Netzahualcóyotl, María Sabina, and Federico García Lorca. “No cesarán mis cantos” is taken from the poetry collection she published, which features illustrations by Javier Olivares. She has also explored performances that combine the Baroque poetry of authors such as Saint Teresa of Ávila and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz with songs by artists like José José and Paquita la del Barrio.

During his stay in Mexico, since October 2025 to record the song Ranchera protectora , Comas has also given various composition workshops to young people in Tapalpa and Guadalajara in collaboration with the theater director and promoter Dolores Tapia, as well as being part of multidisciplinary activities related to the Day of the Dead celebration.
