LITERATURE. The Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) reached a record attendance of over 953,000 at its 39th edition.

Durante las ceremonias de cambio de estafeta se anunció que el aniversario 40 de este encuentro literario se celebrará con diversas actividades que se realizarán a lo largo de 2026.

La edición 39 de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (FIL) alcanzó una asistencia de poco más de 953 mil personas según informó José Trinidad Padilla López, presidente de dicho encuentro que se realizó del 29 de noviembre al 7 de diciembre de 2025.
Durante la rueda de prensa Marisol Schulz, directora de la FIL detalló que fueron 45 mil asistentes más que en 2024, lo cual representó un incremento del 5 %. Por otro lado se anunció que dicho encuentro literario contó con una inversión de 131 millones 258 mil 454.96 y egresos por 128 millones 100 mil 379. 57, de manera que este año hubo una ganancia de 3 millones 135, mil 75 pesos.
Schultz reiteró su satisfacción por haber convocado a escritores como Amin Maalouf, Joan Manuel Serrat, y las estrellas de cine Gael García Bernal y Richard Gere, además de que finalmente si logró asistir la actividsta nigeriana Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, la presencia de dos premios Nobel, Venki Ramakrishnan, en Química en 2009 y Rigoberta Menchú, de la Paz, en 1992.
La delegación de Barcelona compartió que los libros que no logró vender durante los días de feria, los donaron a la Universidad de Guadalajara de manera que pasarán a formar parte del acervo de la Biblioteca Pública del Estado de Jalisco Juan José Arreola, Por otro lado Schulz anunció que celebrarán durante todo el año el 40 aniversario de la FIL y que la edición 40 se realizará del 28 de noviembre al 6 de diciembre de 2026 con Italia como invitado de honor.

ADIÓS BARCELONA, BIENVENIDO ITALIA


En la ceremonia del cambio de estafeta Raquel Gil, concejal, presidenta del Institituto Municipal de Mercados de Barcelona y Vicepresidenta del Instituto Municipal de la Vivienda y Rehabilitación de Barcelona, ratificó su satisfacción y agrado de haber participación como invitado de honor de la FIL Guadalajara con una delegación encabezada por el cantautor Joan Manuel Serrat, quien recibió el título Doctor Honoris causa que entrega la UdeG.

Por su parte Filippo La Rosa, Director Central para la Promoción de la Cultura y la Lengua Italiana, mencionó que la invitación es reflejo de los años de relaciones entre México e Italia, la cual ha sido resultado de la confianza y curiosidad recíproca entre esas naciones, celebró que la invitación se formalizara con esta ceremonia en 2025, año en que se cumplen 150 años de relaciones diplomáticas entre México e Italia. El funcionario recordó que en 2026 se cumplen ocho siglos del nacimiento de San Francisco de Asís, 200 años del de Carlo Collodi autor de Pinocchio, cien años de Dario Fo y diez años de la muerte de Umberto Eco.

Durante dicha ceremonia de cambio de estafeta Gil obsequió a La Rosa una loseta de plata diseñada en 1904 por Antoni Gaudí, que se conmemora en el centenario, el primer producto realizado en diseño industrial de barcelona y una pequeña joya del modernismo catalán y La Rosa obsequió a Gil un ejemplar del libro Italia Meravigiliosa, que incluye fotografías de jardines y palacios de italia elaboradas por Massimo Listri.
Como cierre de dicho acto, la compagnia del Centro Coreográfico Nazionale (CCN) Aterballeto, representó Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda la pieza renacentista de Claudio Monteverdi, con coreografia de Philippe Kratz, bajo la dirección de Fabio Cherstich.

The 39th edition of the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) reached an attendance of just over 953,000 people, according to José Trinidad Padilla López, president of the event, which took place from November 29 to December 7, 2025. During the press conference, Marisol Schulz, director of the FIL, explained that there were 45,000 more attendees than in 2024, representing a 5% increase. On the other hand, it was announced that the literary event had an investment of 131,258,454.96 pesos and expenses of 128,100,379.57 pesos, resulting in a profit of 3,135,075 pesos this year.

Schultz reiterated his satisfaction at having invited writers such as Amin Maalouf and Joan Manuel Serrat, and film stars Gael García Bernal and Richard Gere. He also noted the eventual attendance of Nigerian activist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, and the presence of two Nobel laureates: Venki Ramakrishnan (Chemistry, 2009) and Rigoberta Menchú (Peace, 1992).
The Barcelona delegation shared that the books they were unable to sell during the fair were donated to the University of Guadalajara, where they will become part of the collection of the Juan José Arreola State Public Library of Jalisco. For his part, Filippo La Rosa, Central Director for the Promotion of Italian Culture and Language, mentioned that the invitation reflects the years of relations between Mexico and Italy, which have resulted from mutual trust and curiosity between the two nations. He celebrated that the invitation was formalized with this ceremony in 2025, the year marking 150 years of diplomatic relations between Mexico and Italy. The official noted that 2026 marks the 800th anniversary of the birth of Saint Francis of Assisi, the 200th anniversary of Carlo Collodi, author of Pinocchio, the 100th anniversary of Dario Fo, and the 10th anniversary of Umberto Eco’s death.

During the handover ceremony, Gil presented La Rosa with a silver tile designed in 1904 by Antoni Gaudí, whose centenary is being commemorated. This tile is the first product made using industrial design techniques in Barcelona and a small jewel of Catalan Modernism. La Rosa, in turn, presented Gil with a copy of the book Italia Meravigiliosa, which includes photographs of Italian gardens and palaces taken by Massimo Listri.

To close the event, the Aterballeto company of the Centro Coreografico Nazionale (CCN) performed Claudio Monteverdi’s Renaissance ballet Il combattimento di Tancredi e Clorinda, with choreography by Philippe Kratz and directed by Fabio Cherstich.

El escritor libanés recibió ayer el Premio FIL de Literatura en Lenguas Romances durante la ceremonia con la cual quedó oficialmente inaugurada la edición 39 de la FIL Guadalajara

“La humanidad se encuentra en una época desconcertante, aterradora y fascinante” esas fueron algunas palabras de Amin Maalouf quien recibió ayer el Premio FIL de Literatura en Lenguas Romances.

El escritor libanés volvió a reiterar, que la humanidad vive en dicha contradicción debido a personas que no ven el diálogo como una forma de resolver problemas y recurren a las guerras y la deshumanización que acompaña a la desorbitante carrera de los avances tecnológicos. “Jamás (yo) habría imaginado que la guerra regresaría con tanta fuerza al centro de la actualidad, no sólo en mi región de origen, el Levante, sino también en mi patria adoptiva, Europa; que la violencia se volvería aún más salvaje, más mortífera que en los tiempos de mi nacimiento, hace ya tres cuartos de siglo”.

Carmen Alemany Bay, representante del jurado del Premio leyó de nuevo la carta emitida desde agosto en la cual se plasmó dicha decisión conjunta y que menciona que Maalouf se hizo merecedor a esta distinción por poseer una obra que refleja con gran lucidez, las fracturas y losmestizajes del mundo moderno”, mientras que la presentación que Jorge Volpi hizo del homenajeado, se refirió a sus textos como un conjunto “lúcidas y necesarias reflexiones”.

Más tarde en un encuentro que sostuvo con la prensa, Maalouf lamentó que el conflicto en la Franja de Gaza parezca no tener un desenlace a corto o mediano plazo.

Compartió que debido al oficio de su padre que era periodista fue que nació su amor por la lectura y la escritura, respecto al hábito de la escritura se refirió como “una vocación de familia”.
Subrayó que la literatura es una herramienta a través de la cuál podemos entender el mundo y su devenir, lo cual provee a quien lee y escribe de preveer los peligros que pueden estar detrás de una situación o una circunstancia.

EL GOBIERNO FEDERAL OTORGÓ A LA FIL GUADALAJARA EL CERTIFICADO HECHO EN MÉXICO

Karla Planter rectora de la Universidad de Guadalajara recordó que la FIL Guadalajara es un escenario plural en el que se debaten todo tipo de ideas… es una zona de puertas abiertas a la pluralidad. Aquí tienen cabida todas las perspectivas. Es un espacio de importancia internacional para el intercambio de las ideas. Cuidémosla, y no permitamos que la intolerancia y la cerrazón amenacen a la palabra y supriman la posibilidad del diálogo en libertad.
Durante el acto Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Secretario de Economía de México, Planter Pérez recibió el certificado “Hecho en México” otorgado a la FIL; este es el primero que el gobierno federal entrega a un espacio cultural por excelencia… la FIL es un encuentro cultural para honrar la libertad editorial, y es una evocación del diálogo y la discusión pública.
Jaume Collboni, Alcalde de Barcelona, dijo que su ciudad cumple hoy un sueño de ser invitada de honor de la FIL para demostrar que es una urbe que ama los libros, que ama la literatura y que es una ciudad literaria, plena de librerías, bibliotecas, imprentas y editoriales.
Pablo Lemús Navarro gobernador de Jalisco, exhortó a los presentes a pensar en Raúl Patilla López, fallecido en 2023 como creador y promotor de esta feria y homenajear su legado.

Carmen Alemany Bay, representing the Prize jury, read aloud the letter issued in August outlining the joint decision, which stated that Maalouf deserved this distinction for possessing a body of work that lucidly reflects the fractures and hybridities of the modern world. Jorge Volpi, in his presentation of the honoree, referred to his texts as a collection of «lucid and necessary reflections.»

Later, in a meeting with the press, Maalouf lamented that the conflict in the Gaza Strip seems to have no end in sight.

He shared that his love for reading and writing stemmed from his father’s profession as a journalist, referring to his writing habit as «a family vocation.» He emphasized that literature is a tool through which we can understand the world and its evolution, enabling readers and writers to anticipate the dangers that may lie behind a situation or circumstance.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AWARDED THE GUADALAJARA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR (FIL) THE «MADE IN MEXICO» CERTIFICATE

Karla Planter, Rector of the University of Guadalajara, noted that the Guadalajara International Book Fair (FIL) is a pluralistic forum where all kinds of ideas are debated… it is a space with open doors to pluralism. All perspectives are welcome here. It is an internationally important space for the exchange of ideas. Let us take care of it, and let us not allow intolerance and closed-mindedness to threaten the word and suppress the possibility of free dialogue.

During the ceremony, Marcelo Ebrard Casaubón, Mexico’s Secretary of Economy, received the «Made in Mexico» certificate awarded to the FIL; this is the first such certificate that the federal government has awarded to a cultural space par excellence… the FIL is a cultural gathering to honor editorial freedom, and it is an evocation of dialogue and public discussion.
