LITERATURE. Henri Maler Has Died
3 Octubre /October 3th 2026

The organization confirmed his death and expressed its “immense sadness,” remembering him as a tireless activist for whom the issue of the media was “deeply ingrained in his very being.”
The news prompted tributes from political figures and intellectuals on the French Left. Jean-Luc Mélenchon remembered him as “a resistance fighter who has passed away,” while Olivier Faure, First Secretary of the Socialist Party, noted that “democracy has lost one of its most loyal and exacting defenders.” Le Monde Diplomatique, where Maler was a regular contributor, also highlighted his role in the radical critique of the media system.
Born in Toulouse in 1946, Maler was a philosophy teacher and later a tenured professor and lecturer in Political Science at the University of Paris 8. From a young age, he was committed to the Left, participating in movements that emerged after May 1968 and in the social mobilizations of 1995.
In 1996, he founded Acrimed, an association dedicated to the critical analysis of the media. Its manifesto challenged the concentration of major media outlets in the hands of financial powers. Maler was its driving force, director, and leading figure until 2015.
His legacy also includes numerous books and essays on public opinion, the media, and political thought. His intellectual career was shaped by Karl Marx—the central subject of his doctoral thesis—and by constant reflection on the role of the media in democratic life.
CELEBRIDADES.

The announcement of the marriage between Japanese soccer player Takefusa Kubo, 25, and actress Haruka Fukuhara, 28, took Japan by surprise. The couple confirmed their union on October 2; as there had been no prior public reports of a romance between them, fans began searching for clues about how the relationship developed.
One leading theory points to trips Fukuhara took to Paris in 2024. Fans of the actress revisited a video from that trip posted on her social media and linked her frequent visits to the French capital to the possibility of secret meetings with Kubo taking place there.
This hypothesis gained traction due to the soccer player’s location; he plays for Real Sociedad in the Spanish Basque Country, near the French border. According to Japanese media, this proximity would have facilitated potential meetings away from the glare of the press and fans.
However, the theory remains unconfirmed. Fukuhara’s agency, Ken-On, declined to comment specifically on whether the actress was already in a relationship with Kubo during that trip, stating that they would not answer individual questions in detail.
The marriage was announced via a photo posted by Fukuhara on Instagram, in which the couple showed off their rings. A day later, while with the Japanese national team, Kubo expressed his happiness and explained that they had taken advantage of his return to Japan to make the announcement public, given their demanding professional schedules.

Canadian blues-rock singer Sass Jordan passed away at the age of 63 on Friday, October 2, 2026. Her family confirmed the news via social media, describing her as an “inimitable force of nature” and a person of light and joy.
Jordan died peacefully at home, surrounded by her immediate family. The cause of death has not been disclosed. In September, her team had announced that the artist would step away from performing for the remainder of the year due to a serious medical condition, in order to focus on her health. Her final performance took place in July at the Peterborough Musicfest.
Born in Birmingham, England, and raised in Montreal, Jordan built a career spanning nearly four decades. She made her debut with Tell Somebody (1988), an album that earned her the Juno Award for Most Promising Female Vocalist in 1989. She achieved her breakthrough with Racine (1992), which produced the hit single “Make You a Believer.”

In her later years, she returned to her blues roots with albums such as Rebel Moon Blues (2020) and Bitches Blues (2022). She is survived by her husband, Derek Sharp; her daughter, Stella; her stepdaughter, Brianne; and her brother, Daniel.
