Tuvo una hija con él (Delphine Ciampi) y, a pesar de su posterior divorcio en 1975, continuó dividiendo su vida laboral entre Francia y Japón.
Protagonizó aclamadas cintas bajo la dirección de maestros como Kon Ichikawa (Las hermanas Makioka, Hermano menor) e incursionó en Hollywood en la película de crimen The Yakuza (1974) junto a Robert Mitchum. También fue la narradora de la película nominada al Óscar El ocaso del samurái.
Desde los años 80 destacó ampliamente como escritora de ensayos y novelas. Su reportaje de zonas de conflicto Las manzanas de Bielorrusia (Berarūshi no ringo) le valió el prestigioso Premio del Club de Ensayistas de Japón. Además, se desempeñó como embajadora de buena voluntad del Fondo de Población de las Naciones Unidas (UNFPA) desde 1996.
Su impacto cultural fue reconocido de manera oficial por los gobiernos de ambos países, recibiendo la Orden del Sol Naciente en Japón (2004) y el nombramiento como Comendadora de la Orden de las Artes y las Letras en Francia (2011).

She had a daughter with him (Delphine Ciampi) and, despite their subsequent divorce in 1975, continued to divide her professional life between France and Japan.
She starred in acclaimed films directed by masters such as Kon Ichikawa (The Makioka Sisters, Brother and Sister) and ventured into Hollywood with the crime film The Yakuza (1974), alongside Robert Mitchum. She also served as the narrator for the Oscar-nominated film The Twilight Samurai.
From the 1980s onwards, she distinguished herself as a writer of essays and novels. Her reportage on conflict zones, The Apples of Belarus (Berarūshi no ringo), earned her the prestigious Japan Essayist Club Award. In addition, she served as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) starting in 1996.

El reguetonero puertorriqueño Wisin anunció la creación de la Universidad del Perreo (UDP), un proyecto educativo y cultural que busca estudiar, preservar y difundir la historia e impacto global de la música urbana.
Bajo el lema “El ritmo es el currículum. La calle es el campus”, la iniciativa contempla contenidos como historia del reguetón, ritmo aplicado, cultura urbana, dembow y análisis del flow. También proyecta programas de intercambio y becas para estudiantes interesados en la industria musical.

Puerto Rican reggaeton artist Wisin has announced the creation of the Universidad del Perreo (UDP)—or «University of Perreo»—an educational and cultural project aimed at studying, preserving, and disseminating the history and global impact of urban music.
Under the slogan «The rhythm is the curriculum; the street is the campus,» the initiative includes coursework covering the history of reggaeton, applied rhythm, urban culture, dembow, and analysis of «flow.» It also plans to offer exchange programs and scholarships for students interested in the music industry.
The university will be based in Cayey, Puerto Rico—the artist’s hometown—with the official unveiling of further details scheduled for September 2, 2026. Following the announcement, the UDP website registered interest from over 500,000 people.

La 37.ª Feria Internacional del Libro de Antropología e Historia (FILAH), organizada por el Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) del 13 al 23 de agoso en el Museo Nacional de Antropología e Historia de la Ciudad de México, rindió un emotivo homenaje a la historiadora del arte e investigadora emérita María del Consuelo Maquívar Maquívar, quien suma más de cinco décadas de trayectoria dedicada al estudio y preservación del patrimonio cultural de México.
El reconocimiento se realizó este 18 de agosto, en el Auditorio Jaime Torres Bodet del Museo Nacional de Antropología, donde cientos de asistentes ovacionaron a la especialista por sus aportaciones al conocimiento del arte novohispano, la imaginería religiosa y la iconografía de los siglos XVI al XVIII.
Durante el homenaje, Maquívar expresó su agradecimiento y destacó que uno de los mayores valores de sus 53 años de labor ha sido compartir el camino con colegas y amigos. Como parte del reconocimiento, el flautista y músico Horacio Franco le dedicó algunas melodías.
La investigadora también ha dejado una importante huella en diversos recintos culturales. En dos ocasiones estuvo al frente del Museo Nacional del Virreinato y colaboró en instituciones como el Museo de Guadalupe y el Museo de El Carmen.
Su producción académica incluye obras como Los retablos de Tepotzotlán y El imaginero novohispano y su obra, consideradas referencias para el estudio de la historia del arte en México.
Actualmente, Maquívar continúa activa en la Dirección de Estudios Históricos del INAH, donde mantiene su labor de investigación y aprendizaje junto a nuevas generaciones de especialistas.

The 37th International Anthropology and History Book Fair (FILAH)—organized by the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) and held from August 13 to 23 at the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City—paid a moving tribute to art historian and researcher emeritus María del Consuelo Maquívar Maquívar. Her career spans more than five decades dedicated to the study and preservation of Mexico’s cultural heritage.
The tribute took place on August 18 at the National Museum of Anthropology’s Jaime Torres Bodet Auditorium, where hundreds of attendees gave the specialist a standing ovation for her contributions to the understanding of New Spanish art, religious imagery, and iconography from the 16th to the 18th centuries.
During the ceremony, Maquívar expressed her gratitude and highlighted that one of the greatest rewards of her 53-year career has been sharing the journey with colleagues and friends. As part of the tribute, flautist and musician Horacio Franco performed several musical pieces in her honor.
The researcher has also left a significant mark on various cultural institutions. She twice served as director of the National Museum of the Viceroyalty and collaborated with institutions such as the Museum of Guadalupe and the Museum of El Carmen.
Her academic output includes works such as Los retablos de Tepotzotlán (The Altarpieces of Tepotzotlán) and El imaginero novohispano y su obra (The New Spanish Religious Image Maker and His Work), both considered essential references for the study of art history in Mexico.
Maquívar remains active at INAH’s Directorate of Historical Studies, where she continues her research and learning alongside new generations of specialists.
