El Festival PAAX GNP 2026 concluyó su quinta edición tras 11 días de actividades dedicadas a la música sinfónica, la ópera, la zarzuela y la danza en el Hotel Xcaret Arte de la Riviera Maya. Del 23 de julio al 2 de agosto, el encuentro dirigido por la reconocida maestra Alondra de la Parra reunió a grandes figuras nacionales e internacionales bajo el concepto artístico de La Orquesta Imposible.
El cierre estuvo a cargo del concierto gratuito “Sinfonía familiar”, presentado en el Teatro Gran Tlachco de Xcaret, con la participación del programa educativo Armonía Social, una iniciativa enfocada en acercar la música a nuevas generaciones.
La edición 2026 contó con la presencia de destacados intérpretes como el tenor Rolando Villazón, la soprano Serena Sáenz, la mezzosoprano Gaëlle Arquez y el tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz. También destacó la participación, por primera vez, de la Orquesta y Coro de la Comunidad de Madrid (ORCAM), además de bailarines del reconocido Joffrey Ballet.
Entre los momentos más relevantes del festival estuvieron los estrenos mundiales de la primera sinfonía “La Reina Roja”, de la compositora mexicana Gabriela Ortiz, y “Entreverao llanero”, obra del músico Leo Rondón.
Con la consolidación de su quinta edición, PAAX GNP anunció su regreso para el verano de 2027, cuando celebrará su sexta edición del 1 al 11 de julio, reafirmando su posición como uno de los encuentros culturales más importantes de México.

The PAAX GNP Festival 2026 concluded its fifth edition after 11 days of activities dedicated to symphonic music, opera, zarzuela, and dance at the Xcaret Arte Hotel in the Riviera Maya. From July 23 to August 2, the event, directed by renowned maestro Alondra de la Parra, brought together leading national and international artists under the artistic concept of The Impossible Orchestra.

The festival closed with the free concert “Family Symphony,” presented at the Gran Tlachco Theater in Xcaret, with the participation of the Armonía Social educational program, an initiative focused on bringing music to new generations.

The 2026 edition featured prominent performers such as tenor Rolando Villazón, soprano Serena Sáenz, mezzo-soprano Gaëlle Arquez, and tenor Arturo Chacón-Cruz. Also noteworthy was the participation, for the first time, of the Orchestra and Choir of the Community of Madrid (ORCAM), as well as dancers from the renowned Joffrey Ballet.

El reconocido alpinista nepalí-británico Nirmal “Nims” Purja, una de las figuras más destacadas del montañismo contemporáneo, falleció a los 43 años tras ser alcanzado por una avalancha en la montaña Broad Peak, ubicada en el norte de Pakistán. El accidente ocurrió el 30 de julio de 2026 y cobró la vida de los 10 integrantes de su expedición. La noticia fue confirmada oficialmente el 1 de agosto por su agencia de montañismo, Elite Exped.
El alud se registró a aproximadamente 6,600 metros de altitud, en la ruta entre el Campo 2 y el Campo 3. De acuerdo con los primeros reportes, una combinación de fuertes vientos y condiciones inestables de la nieve provocó el desprendimiento. Entre las víctimas se encontraban seis sherpas nepalíes y escaladores procedentes de China, Estados Unidos, Omán y Pakistán, incluida la reconocida montañista omaní Nadhira Al Harthy.
Equipos de rescate del Ejército de Pakistán utilizaron drones y operaciones aéreas para localizar a los integrantes desaparecidos. Los primeros cuerpos recuperados fueron trasladados mediante helicópteros militares, aunque las labores tuvieron que suspenderse temporalmente debido a las condiciones meteorológicas adversas.

The renowned Nepalese-British mountaineer Nirmal “Nims” Purja, one of the most prominent figures in contemporary mountaineering, died at the age of 43 after being caught in an avalanche on Broad Peak, located in northern Pakistan. The accident occurred on July 30, 2016, and claimed the lives of all 10 members of his expedition. The news was officially confirmed on August 1 by his mountaineering agency, Elite Exped.

The avalanche occurred at approximately 6,600 meters (20,000 feet) altitude, on the route between Camp 2 and Camp 3. According to initial reports, a combination of strong winds and unstable snow conditions triggered the avalanche. Among the victims were six Nepalese Sherpas and climbers from China, the United States, Oman, and Pakistan, including renowned Omani mountaineer Nadhira Al Harthy.
Pakistan Army rescue teams used drones and aerial operations to locate the missing climbers. The first bodies recovered were airlifted by military helicopters, although the operation had to be temporarily suspended due to adverse weather conditions.

Before beginning his ascent, Purja shared his goal of completing his “Hat Trick” on Broad Peak, as part of his challenge to become the first person to climb all 14 of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks twice without supplemental oxygen.
