La 34ª Feria Internacional del Libro de La Habana (FILH 2026) se inauguró el 10 de agosto y se extenderá hasta el 16 de agosto, bajo el lema «Leer es crecer». Rusia participa como país invitado de honor.
La sede principal es la Estación Cultural de Línea y 18, en El Vedado, aunque el programa también ocupa espacios como la Casa de las Américas, el Pabellón Cuba, la Biblioteca Nacional y el bulevar de San Rafael.
La feria reúne más de 1.300 novedades editoriales y cerca de 2,4 millones de ejemplares entre exhibición y venta. Esta edición está dedicada al centenario del natalicio de Fidel Castro, al escritor Alberto Guerra Naranjo y al Centro de Formación Literaria Onelio Jorge Cardoso.
El encuentro continuará posteriormente por otras provincias cubanas y tendrá su cierre en Santiago de Cuba el 6 de septiembre. La FILH se desarrolla además en un contexto marcado por la crisis económica y energética que atraviesa la isla, pero mantiene su apuesta por convertir los libros y la literatura en uno de los principales espacios de encuentro cultural.

The 34th Havana International Book Fair (FILH 2026) opened on August 10 and runs until August 16 under the slogan «Reading is Growing.» Russia is participating as the guest of honor.

La televisión francófona está de luto. El ventrílocuo y titiritero belga Michel Dejeneffe falleció a los 77 años, el pasado 7 de agosto de 2026, en la región de Saint-Étienne, Francia. Su familia confirmó que padecía la enfermedad de cuerpos de Lewy.

Dejeneffe pasó a la historia de la cultura popular como el creador y voz de Tatayet, una peculiar marioneta con forma de castor que conquistó a varias generaciones durante las décadas de los 80 y 90. El personaje nació en 1975, cuando Dejeneffe, entonces maestro de escuela, creó la marioneta a partir de un antiguo cuello de piel sintética que recibió como regalo durante una obra benéfica.

El éxito llegó con Tatayet Show, programa de la televisión pública belga RTBF que permaneció al aire entre 1986 y 1992. Posteriormente, el personaje se convirtió también en un rostro habitual de la televisión francesa, especialmente en los programas de Michel Drucker y Patrick Sébastien.

Dejeneffe se retiró de los escenarios en 2017, aunque continuó vinculado a las artes escénicas y a la formación de nuevos ventrílocuos. Sus funerales se realizarán este 12 de agosto en Andrézieux-Bouthéon.

The Francophone television world is in mourning. Belgian ventriloquist and puppeteer Michel Dejeneffe passed away at the age of 77 on August 7, 2026, in the Saint-Étienne region of France. His family confirmed that he suffered from Lewy body disease.

Dejeneffe earned a place in pop culture history as the creator and voice of Tatayet, a distinctive beaver-like puppet that captivated generations throughout the 1980s and 1990s. The character was born in 1975 when Dejeneffe—then a schoolteacher—created the puppet from an old faux-fur collar he had received as a gift during a charity event.

Success arrived with Tatayet Show, a program on the Belgian public broadcaster RTBF that aired between 1986 and 1992. Subsequently, the character became a familiar face on French television as well, particularly on shows hosted by Michel Drucker and Patrick Sébastien.

Dejeneffe retired from performing in 2017, though he remained involved in the performing arts and the training of new ventriloquists. His funeral will take place on August 12 in Andrézieux-Bouthéon.

Alongside his inseparable Tatayet, Michel Dejeneffe turned ventriloquism into a television phenomenon and left an enduring, cherished legacy in the pop culture of both Belgium and France.

Budapest vuelve a convertirse en uno de los grandes epicentros de la música y la cultura con el Sziget Festival 2026, que se realizará del 11 al 15 de agosto en la isla de Óbuda, conocida como la “Isla de la Libertad”.

El encuentro, uno de los festivales culturales al aire libre más importantes de Europa, regresa después de superar una compleja crisis financiera que puso en duda su continuidad.

Nacido en 1993, Sziget mantiene su apuesta por la diversidad con más de 600 programas en 52 escenarios, donde la música convive con teatro, circo, danza, talleres, propuestas artísticas y actividades sociales. La edición 2026 reúne a artistas de distintas generaciones y estilos, consolidando su carácter verdaderamente multigénero.

El cartel tiene como protagonistas a Florence + The Machine, Bring Me The Horizon, Twenty One Pilots, Lewis Capaldi, Zara Larsson y Skrillex, además de nombres como Wolf Alice, Skepta, Jorja Smith, Underworld, Biffy Clyro, Sombr, Loyle Carner, Nia Archives, Richie Hawtin y Sub Focus. La propuesta electrónica también tendrá una presencia destacada con artistas como Indira Paganotto, Mëstiza, Funk Tribu y Héctor Oaks entre una larga lista de artistas de España, Colombia y Chile .

El programa oficial también contempla actividades de organizaciones no gubernamentales y proyectos enfocados en generar participación y conciencia social.

La edición 2026 llega, además, con una historia de supervivencia. Después de registrar importantes pérdidas económicas en los últimos años y enfrentar el riesgo de cancelación, su fundador Károly Gerendai recuperó el control del festival con apoyo de inversionistas locales, devolviendo el proyecto a manos húngaras.

The 2026 edition brings together artists from various generations and styles, cementing its status as a truly multi-genre event.

The lineup is headlined by Florence + The Machine, Bring Me The Horizon, Twenty One Pilots, Lewis Capaldi, Zara Larsson, and Skrillex, alongside acts such as Wolf Alice, Skepta, Jorja Smith, Underworld, Biffy Clyro, Sombr, Loyle Carner, Nia Archives, Richie Hawtin, and Sub Focus. Electronic music will also have a prominent presence, featuring artists like Indira Paganotto, Mëstiza, Funk Tribu, and Héctor Oaks, among a long list of performers from Spain, Colombia, and Chile.

El historiador y académico mexicano Rogelio Ruiz Gomar falleció el domingo 9 de agosto de 2026, a los 80 años. La noticia fue confirmada por instituciones culturales y académicas, que lamentaron la partida de uno de los grandes especialistas en la pintura del Virreinato de la Nueva España.
Formado en la UNAM, Ruiz Gomar dedicó décadas al estudio, conservación y difusión del patrimonio artístico novohispano. Su trabajo como investigador y docente contribuyó a formar a nuevas generaciones de historiadores, restauradores y curadores.
Instituciones como el Instituto de Investigaciones Estéticas de la UNAM, el Museo Nacional de Arte, el Museo Amparo y la Escuela de Conservación y Restauración de Occidente expresaron públicamente su pesar por la pérdida del académico, quien también colaboró como asesor y miembro del Comité Curatorial del MUNAL.
Uno de sus últimos grandes proyectos fue la creación de una infraestructura digital de acceso libre dedicada a los pintores de la Nueva España, con cerca de mil 400 registros. La iniciativa refleja su empeño por modernizar la investigación del arte virreinal y facilitar el acceso al conocimiento.

Mexican historian and academic Rogelio Ruiz Gomar passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at the age of 80. The news was confirmed by cultural and academic institutions, which mourned the loss of one of the foremost specialists in the painting of the Viceroyalty of New Spain.
Educated at UNAM, Ruiz Gomar dedicated decades to the study, preservation, and dissemination of New Spanish artistic heritage. His work as a researcher and educator helped train new generations of historians, conservators, and curators.
Institutions such as UNAM’s Institute for Aesthetic Research, the National Museum of Art (MUNAL), the Amparo Museum, and the Western School of Conservation and Restoration publicly expressed their sorrow over the academic’s passing; he had also served as an advisor and a member of MUNAL’s Curatorial Committee.
One of his final major projects was the creation of an open-access digital resource dedicated to the painters of New Spain, featuring nearly 1,400 entries. The initiative reflects his commitment to modernizing research into viceregal art and facilitating access to knowledge.

Cinema Tepito rendirá homenaje a María Rojo con una retrospectiva itinerante que recorrerá Tlatelolco, Tepito y el antiguo Palacio de Lecumberri del 15 de agosto al 5 de septiembre de 2026. El ciclo abrirá el Día Nacional del Cine Mexicano, fecha que además coincide con el cumpleaños de la actriz, quien estará presente en la inauguración.

La primera función será el 15 de agosto, a las 16:00 horas, en el Centro de Artes Escénicas María Rojo, donde se proyectará María de mi corazón, de Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, junto con la versión restaurada del cortometraje Idilio, con apoyo del IMCINE.

Durante el ciclo también se exhibirán El callejón de los milagros, de Jorge Fons, y El apando, de Felipe Cazals, esta última en el Archivo General de la Nación, antigua Penitenciaría de Lecumberri. La clausura llegará a Tepito con Me llaman la Chata Aguayo y Tespis Teporocho.

La inauguración tendrá además un significado especial: María Rojo recibirá el primer Reconocimiento Changarro de Barrio a la Trayectoria Fílmica, creado por Cinema Tepito para distinguir a figuras esenciales del cine mexicano desde una mirada comunitaria.

Cinema Tepito will pay tribute to María Rojo with a traveling retrospective visiting Tlatelolco, Tepito, and the former Lecumberri Palace from August 15 to September 5, 2026. The series will launch on National Mexican Cinema Day—a date that also coincides with the actress’s birthday; she will be present at the opening event.

The first screening will take place on August 15 at 4:00 PM at the María Rojo Performing Arts Center, featuring María de mi corazón by Jaime Humberto Hermosillo, alongside the restored version of the short film Idilio, with support from IMCINE.

The series will also showcase El callejón de los milagros by Jorge Fons and El apando by Felipe Cazals—the latter to be screened at the General Archive of the Nation (formerly the Lecumberri Penitentiary).
