He was a full professor of Theoretical Philosophy at the University of Salerno and, in his later years, taught political theology at the San Raffaele University in Milan.

His thought transcended Italian borders. He lectured and gave talks in various countries across Europe, the United States, and Latin America, while also maintaining close academic ties with Mexico and Argentina. In 2012, he received an honorary doctorate from the National University of General San Martín in Buenos Aires.

El escritor cubano Leonardo Padura recibe el Premio LIBER 2026 al autor hispanoamericano más destacado, reconocimiento otorgado por la Federación de Gremios de Editores de España (FGEE). Con esta distinción, Padura se convierte en el primer escritor cubano en obtener este galardón honorífico del sector editorial.
El jurado destaca de manera unánime su capacidad para explorar la verdad, la culpa y la historia a través de la investigación, además de su diversidad literaria y proyección internacional. El premio no tiene dotación económica y reconoce la trayectoria de una de las voces más importantes de la literatura latinoamericana contemporánea.
