After 16 years of analyzing ancient inscriptions, a team of archaeologists has identified Sak Tahn Waax—whose name means «White-Chested Fox»—as the first Maya mathematician and astronomer known by name.
The discovery was made at Xultún, Petén, Guatemala, where researchers studied the hieroglyphs and calculations found on Structure 10K-2, an ancient room associated with the scribes and specialists of the era. Dozens of mathematical micro-texts and equations were found on its walls, revealing an extraordinary understanding of celestial cycles.
Sak Tahn Waax developed calculations linking various Maya calendar cycles to astronomical phenomena, including the movements of Venus and Mars, as well as lunar phases and the solar year. This knowledge enabled the measurement of the passage of time and the prediction of astronomical events with remarkable precision.
The discovery is of exceptional historical significance: for the first time, archaeological research has concretely attributed Maya mathematical and astronomical knowledge to a specific, identified individual. More than just a collection of numbers and symbols, the walls of Xultún reveal the personal imprint of a scientist who lived approximately 1,300 years ago.

El vuelo LH573 de Lufthansa, operado por un Boeing 747-8 con 379 personas a bordo, realizó un aterrizaje de emergencia en Brazzaville, República del Congo, luego de que la tripulación detectara un olor indeterminado en la cabina.
La aeronave, matrícula D-ABYO, cubría la ruta entre Johannesburgo y Fráncfort cuando, a unos 34.000 pies de altura sobre la República Democrática del Congo, los pilotos activaron el código de emergencia 7700 y desviaron el vuelo hacia el aeropuerto Maya-Maya de Brazzaville. El aterrizaje se realizó sin inconvenientes.

Lufthansa flight LH573, operated by a Boeing 747-8 with 379 people on board, made an emergency landing in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, after the crew detected an unidentified odor in the cabin.
The aircraft, registered as D-ABYO, was flying from Johannesburg to Frankfurt when—at an altitude of approximately 34,000 feet over the Democratic Republic of the Congo—the pilots activated emergency code 7700 and diverted the flight to Maya-Maya Airport in Brazzaville. The landing was completed without incident.
Although there was initial talk of possible electrical smoke, Lufthansa clarified that no smoke was detected and described the incident as an emergency caused by an unknown odor. The airline sent another Boeing 747-8 from Frankfurt to transport the passengers, who spent the night in Brazzaville hotels.
Additionally, a team of specialized technicians traveled on the replacement aircraft to inspect the D-ABYO and determine the source of the odor before authorizing its return to Germany. The cause remains under investigation.

En la Sala Silenciosa, los visitantes pueden descubrir los dibujos tal como salieron de la mesa de trabajo de Trino: en blanco y negro, con trazos originales y líneas guía que permiten acercarse a su proceso creativo. Las piezas se exhiben entre acrílicos, sin los marcos tradicionales, para conservar la esencia de cada “mono”.
La exposición también pone el foco en los personajes y situaciones que rodean al futbol: representantes, árbitros, abanderados, recogebalones, familias y hasta el VAR. Con su característico humor ácido, Trino retrata el fenómeno social y comercial que despierta el deporte.
“La cruda mundialista” puede visitarse en Sala Silenciosa, en López Cotilla #814, Guadalajara, hasta finales de octubre de 2026. La muestra dialoga además con su reciente libro El tercer Mundial de Trino, reafirmando una mirada divertida y crítica sobre la pasión futbolera.

Guadalajara-based cartoonist Trino Camacho has opened “La cruda mundialista” (The World Cup Hangover) in his hometown, an exhibition featuring over 30 original cartoons created between 2022 and 2026. The show turns soccer into a subject for humor, critique, and reflection, offering a perspective that goes beyond the final scores.
In the Sala Silenciosa (Silent Room), visitors can view the drawings exactly as they came off Trino’s drafting table: in black and white, displaying the original strokes and guide lines that offer a glimpse into his creative process. The pieces are displayed between acrylic panels—eschewing traditional frames—to preserve the raw essence of each cartoon.
The exhibition also shines a spotlight on the figures and situations surrounding the sport: agents, referees, assistant referees, ball boys, families, and even VAR. With his signature biting humor, Trino portrays the social and commercial phenomenon sparked by the sport.
“La cruda mundialista” is on view at Sala Silenciosa (López Cotilla #814, Guadalajara) through the end of October 2026. The exhibition also complements his recent book, El tercer Mundial de Trino (Trino’s Third World Cup), reinforcing a humorous yet critical take on the passion for soccer.

La música country está de luto por la muerte de Tommy Detamore, reconocido guitarrista de pedal steel, productor e ingeniero de sonido, quien falleció de manera repentina el miércoles 5 de agosto de 2026, a los 70 años. Su esposa, Sandra Detamore, confirmó la noticia y recordó los 41 años que compartieron juntos.
Hasta el momento, la familia no ha informado la causa de su fallecimiento. La noticia ocurre apenas unos días después de que Detamore fuera reconocido con el premio Hero of Western Swing, distinción que no pudo recibir personalmente debido a problemas de salud previos.
