El poeta Wingston González, ganó el Premio de Literaturas Indígenas de América (PLIA) 2026 con un trabajo literario que destaca la herencia lingüística, filosófica y que muestra a la poesía como un aspecto de sabiduría no fungible, la obra Un poquito más allá, escrita en idioma garífuna.

El escritor refirió que su obra busca reflexionar sobre la filosofía del pueblo garífuna, su espiritualidad y la resistencia política que desde la lengua para reconocer las raíces que caracterizan a estos pueblos originarios.

Entre las obras de Wingston González también se encuentran los libros Los magos del crepúsculo [y blues otra vez], Cafeína MC: segunda parte, Cafeína MC: primera parte o Miss muñecas vudu; además, su poesía se ha incluido en antologías como El quetzal, colibrí gigante, Nuestramérica es un verso, El ocre, el rojo y el verde y Ruge el bosque, Vol. 2.

El jurado calificador destacó que esta obra, narrada en idioma garífuna, refleja la mezcla entre los pueblos africanos y arawak, situados en la región del Caribe centroamericano, y da una muestra de una poesía estéticamente lograda, con ritmos propios que retratan la odisea de una cultura garífuna desde la expulsión de la región de las Antillas hasta su llegada a las costas de Centroamérica. “Esta obra refleja una profunda exploración poética y cultural de la identidad y el idioma garífuna articulado a su vez de poemas, notas de pie de página y relatos de la tradición oral que entrelazan historia, espiritualidad y cosmovisión”, declaró la escritora Gloria Chacón, integrante del jurado del PLIA 2026.

Gabriel Pacheco Salvador, presidente de la Comisión del PLIA 2026, detalló que en esta edición participaron 69 obras de países como México, Colombia, Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile y Argentina, los cuales fueron revisados y evaluados por especialistas como Gloria Chacón, académica y escritora maya, o el poeta oaxaqueño de origen zapoteco Víctor Terán. Recordó que este galardón será entregado el próximo 4 de diciembre a las 16:00 horas durante las actividades de la Feria Internacional del Libro de Guadalajara (FIL), donde se le entregará a Wingston González un reconocimiento económico por 300 mil pesos mexicanos y una escultura a cargo del artista jalisciense Camilo Ramírez.

They also noted its aesthetic excellence and distinctive rhythms, which portray the odyssey of Garifuna culture from its expulsion from the Antilles to its arrival on the coasts of Central America. “This work reflects a profound poetic and cultural exploration of Garifuna identity and language, articulated through poems, footnotes, and oral tradition narratives that intertwine history, spirituality, and worldview,” stated writer Gloria Chacón, a member of the PLIA 2026 jury.

Gabriel Pacheco Salvador, president of the PLIA 2026 Commission, noted that this edition saw the participation of 69 works from countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Guatemala, Bolivia, Ecuador, Chile, and Argentina. Ademir Barbosa Júnior, conocido como Pai Dermes de Xangô, fue anunciado como ganador del Premio Pallas de Literatura 2026 por su obra inédita A pombagira do fim do mundo e outros contos, informó el diario brasileño O Globo.

El libro reúne 14 cuentos inéditos que dialogan con el universo y la espiritualidad de las religiones tradicionales de matriz afrobrasileña, conocidas como religiones de terreiro. Como parte del reconocimiento, Pallas Editora publicará la obra en 2027 y el autor recibirá una mentoría literaria personalizada del escritor y curador del certamen, Henrique Rodrigues.

La edición 2026 del premio marcó además un cambio relevante: por primera vez, la convocatoria estuvo dedicada exclusivamente a cuentos inéditos escritos por autores negros brasileños, con el objetivo de impulsar nuevas voces dentro de la literatura nacional.

Barbosa Júnior, sacerdote de Umbanda y ogã de Candomblé, explicó que su experiencia espiritual no convierte su literatura en una herramienta de difusión doctrinal. Por el contrario, defendió la autonomía de la creación artística y señaló que los relatos inspirados en las religiones de terreiro deben ser entendidos como literatura y no como lecciones de historia, fundamentos o teología.
